Caleb “Twizz” Heath is Alabama’s youngest rising voice in jazz drumming and already one of the most in-demand young bandleaders in the state at 19 years old. Known for a hard swinging, deeply rooted sound, he performs extensively as both a sideman and leader, fronting the Twizz Heath Quartet and Twizz Heath Trio while collaborating with prominent bandleaders including Jose Carr, Choko Aiken, and Josh Couts.

Heath has been recognized by The Birmingham Times as “Alabama’s most promising young jazz drummer” and has also been featured by AL.com for his rapid emergence as a leading young figure in the state’s jazz scene.

In addition to his live performance work, Heath has built a strong digital presence, amassing a following of over 60,000 across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube through consistent posting of jazz performances and related performance content, extending his reach and visibility far beyond the regional scene.

A freshman at Jacksonville State University, Heath holds the principal drum set chair in Jazz One, the university’s top big band, and performs as the drummer for Combo 1, the premier small ensemble selected from seven groups. His placement across both flagship ensembles reflects a rare level of trust, musical authority, and stylistic command at an early stage in his career.

As a bandleader, Heath maintains a consistent presence at leading Alabama venues including Pogo, The High Dive, Piccolo, and the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, where his groups deliver a focused, high energy approach to bebop and straight ahead jazz that remains rare among musicians of his generation in the region.

Heath’s performance experience continues to expand on a national and international level, including a featured appearance with JSU at the Jazz Education Network Conference and an international tour in Brazil with JSU Combo 1. With a rapidly growing platform, a distinct artistic voice, and a commitment to the tradition at the highest level, Twizz Heath represents the next serious wave of jazz artistry emerging from Alabama.
